Ink and toner cartridges are sorted into different brands and models, which are resold back to the companies that created these cartridges. The companies refill the ink reservoir, which can be sold back to consumers. Toner cartridges are recycled the same way as ink cartridges, using toner instead of ink. This method of recycling is highly efficient as there is no energy spent on melting and recreating the recycled object itself. As any other form of recycling, it refrains from making more waste and wasting money on unnecessary processes.

Currently, only laser printer toner cartridges (shown to the left) are eligible for recycling by Imaging Technologies, our recycling service provider. Most departmental printers are using laser printer toner cartridges, and these are all eligible for recycling through this program. All other types, including ink jet cartridges, can be recycled directly through the manufacturer. Check the Web site of your printer or cartridge supplier to find out how you can order postage-paid return shipping materials to have your cartridges recycled. |
