ITS has established the following email quotas for faculty, staff, and students to better secure our email systems:
You will receive a popup notification when your account reaches 80% of the storage limit. When your mailbox reaches the storage limit, you stop receiving new messages and incoming messages that put you over the limit are returned to the sender after 24 hours. For example, if your account only has .5 MB of remaining space and someone sends you a 0.7 MB message, that message cannot be delivered to your inbox. The email server will attempt to deliver the message every 4 hours for the next 24 hours. If you do not free up enough space in your mailbox after 24 hours, the message is returned to the sender. You will not be able to receive any new messages until your account is under the storage limit.
Once you delete enough email to go under your full
storage limit, you begin receiving new email again. However, if you have not
deleted enough messages, your incoming email is stopped again and you receive
another warning message. Once you delete enough email to go under 80%
of your storage capacity, the warning messages will stop. An easy
way to see what your quota is set to and how much storage you have used is
to log into
Webmail. Your storage usage and quota are
displayed in the "My Folders' panel.
If you need additional storage, you will be automatically notified when your mailbox reaches 80% of its capacity. To request an increase, call the Help Desk (2-HELP).
