Downloading and Installing Microsoft Office 2003

for windows vista, xp, and 2000

Pre-installation

  1. Print this page for reference.
  2. Uninstall any previous versions of Microsoft Office you have installed.
    Note: If you need assistance uninstalling previous versions of Office, please contact the Help Center at 617-552-HELP (2-HELP from on-campus) or help.center@bc.edu.
  3. Download Microsoft Office 2003 to your desktop. When prompted, enter your BC username and password. Save the MicrosoftOffice2003-Win.exe installation file to your desktop. Do not install the application at this time. NOTE:
    • There may be a slight delay before your download starts.
    • Due to the Office 2003 installer's large file size, it may take a few minutes to download.
    • To prevent disruptions to the download, we recommend that you use a high-speed, wired connection to the Internet, such as a broadband or DSL connection. Wireless connections are usually less stable and may cause your download to take longer or fail.
  4. Quit any open applications.

Install Microsoft Office 2003

  1. Locate and double-click the MicrosoftOffice2003-Win.exe installer on your desktop.
    • If you use Windows Vista and are prompted for permission to install Office 2003, click Allow.
    • If you are asked, "Are you sure you want to run this software?", click Run.
    The WinZip Self-Extractor will begin the setup process (see Figure 1).Figure 1

  2. Wait while the installation initializes (see Figure 2)Figure 2

  3. Enter your initials on the "User Information" screen, then click Next (see Figure 3).

  4. Choose Typical Install, then click Next (see Figure 4).

  5. Wait while Office 2003 installs. This may take 10 minutes or more (see Figure 5).

  6. Once the installation completes, check the box next to "Check the Web for updates and additional downloads," then click Next (see Figure 6).

  7. Follow the prompts on the Office website to check for and install Office updates.
  8. After all updates have been installed, delete the MicrosoftOffice2003-Win.exe installer icon from your desktop.
