Why have I been directed to this page?
You have been directed to this page because your email settings do not comply with the new security standards. Please follow the instructions below to make the necessary configuration changes to your email software.
What will be different after I make the change?
There are many layers of security that can be used with your email application. Basically, after making the changes below, you will be prompted to log in the first time you send email during an email session. This "log in to send" ensures that you are the one actually sending email, not a "spambot" or "zombie" that could be using your email application to send spam and/or viruses.
Technically speaking, you are changing settings for the Outgoing (SMTP) Server to use password authentication and SecureSockets Layer (SSL)/Transport Layer Security (TLS) over Port 587, Port 465, or Port 25.
What if I have problems or need help?
The Help Center is ready to assist you if you have any problems making the required changes to your email software. Faculty and staff can also contact their local Technology Consultant. If you have any problems with your email software, and need to send an email immediately, use WebMail at: http://mail.bc.edu
