Boston College Residential Life works closely with the Director of Public Safety, the Boston College Police Department, Facilities Management, and the Eagle-One Card Office to provide a safe and secure living environment within the Residence Halls. These policies are designed to improve your personal safety and security in the residence halls.
All residence halls except for the Modular Apartments are secured via a card access system. Upon check-in, a resident's Boston College Eagle-One Card is activated to provide 24/7 access to their residence hall. In addition to one's own residence hall, each resident has 7:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m. access to the other halls in their class year's area, along with 11 a.m.–6:00 p.m. access to the hall where their Mail and Package Center is located. Students registered for classes scheduled within the residence halls will be provided access from 30 minutes prior to the class until 30 minutes after the class has ended. Residents of Walsh should also review the Walsh Front Desk Attendant program details.

Seniors: Voute, Gabelli, Ignacio, Rubenstein, Mods, Edmond’s, & Stayer Hall
Card Reader Types: There are two color card readers that can be found in the residence halls, white — Student Access, and black — Staff Only.
Boston College departments and vendors that require access to the residence halls are required to email firstname.lastname@example.org with the details of their request, including the Eagle numbers of all staff for whom access is being requested.
Most suites, apartments, and traditional-style rooms have a combination pad on the main entry door. You are responsible for keeping the keypad combination assigned to you private. Do not share the combination with anyone.
All combination change requests must be made from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. at the Residential Life Central Office, located in Maloney Hall, Suite 220. All changes cost $50.00, and the charge is added to the student account of the resident who makes the request. Combination changes due to room changes are free of charge and must be requested by one of the residents of the room.
Upon a change request, a new combination will be issued immediately; however, the physical change may take up to 48 hours. Special consideration is given to high-priority needs. The person who makes the request is responsible for contacting all of the members of the suite to inform them of the new combination. The Lock Shop staff will leave a notice on the door when the change is complete.
You are responsible for each key issued to you. Residents are required to replace lost keys from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. at the Residential Life Central Office, located in Maloney Hall, Suite 220. Replacement keys are issued for all interior bedroom keys; however, all primary entrances use card swipe access based off the Eagle-One card. All fees are added to the student account. Students who do not return their keys according to the posted check-out instructions will receive the following charges on their student account. Key return receipts are issued upon academic year check-out and should be retained in the case of an incorrect charge.
Replacement/Lock Change Charges:
$50.00 for primary entrance keys (Modulars, Greycliff, Medeiros and Shaw)*
$20.00 for bedroom keys (Vanderslice, 90 STM, Stayer Hall, Walsh, Edmond's, Voute, Gabelli, Ignacio, Rubenstein)
When the lock is being changed, the new keys will be available in the main office to pick up the morning the lock is changed. All residents must get their own replacement key. A BC ID and the old key are required.
Students who lock themselves out of their rooms may request assistance from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. at the Residential Life Central Office, located in Maloney Hall, Suite 220. Outside these hours a student must contact their Resident Assistant on duty. If no one can be located, please call the BCPD non-emergency line at 617-552-4440. BCPD will contact the Resident Director On Call. Please allow at least 30 minutes for someone to respond on site.
Students who fail to return a lockout key issued from the Central Office within 24 hours will be charged for a Lost Key, and the lock will be changed if necessary.
Lockouts that require the assistance of in-hall or on-call staff will be documented. On the second lockout, a written warning will be sent, and any lockout thereafter will result in a meeting with the Resident Director and a $50 lockout fine.
