Emergency Closing Information
If a heavy snowstorm or other emergency necessitates cancellation or delay of work for office staff, employees should tune in to WBZ Radio (1030-AM), WBZ-TV (Channel 4), or WCVB-TV (Channel 5) between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Employees may also call (617) 552-INFO for information on an emergency closing or early release. Announcements will also be posted on the Staff Home page accessible via Agora login, as well as the website at bc.edu/prepare. An announcement will inform employees if there is cancellation of work. An announcement canceling classes at Boston College does not mean that there is cancellation of work. The announcement will specifically mention that Boston College is "closed" when employees are not expected to report.
When work is canceled, there may be a situation in certain offices where essential activities must be maintained. It is expected in these cases that some arrangement for coverage or standby be made between the administrator and the office staff. If an employee is required to work on such a day, compensatory time off will be provided to that employee and will be scheduled at a time that is mutually convenient to the department and the affected individual.
The decision on early dismissal of employees because of extreme heat, snow, etc., will be communicated by the Department of Human Resources. Employees may also call (617) 552-INFO for information on early dismissal as well as checking the Staff Home webpage in Agora. Unless otherwise notified, all staff members are expected to remain at work until the closing hour.
