Sarah Dent | Assistant Principal, Chelsea High School
Sarah Dent has worked in urban education since she began her teaching career in 2004. After graduating from Bates College, she taught sophomore English for three years as a Teach for America Corps Member in Phoenix, Arizona. During that time, Sarah earned a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University. She also coordinated the AVID program and supported first generation college applicants through their first years of high school. In 2006, Sarah served as the Induction Coordinator and English Learning Team Leader for Teach for America Phoenix. Sarah returned to the East Coast in 2007, where she spent three years teaching 7th and 8th grade English at KIPP Academy Lynn, MA. Sarah also acted as the 8th Grade Level Chair, where she managed the 8th grade staff and students and was a member of the school’s leadership team. In 2010, Sarah returned to public education and taught for two years at a BPS Turnaround School before becoming an instructional coach at Chelsea High School. Currently, Sarah supports teachers in their planning and implementation of curriculum. She leads weekly professional learning communities with teachers, observes classes, and co-plans or co-teaches with teachers. In her four years as instructional coach, Sarah has focused on student centered instruction and spearheaded the school’s drive to have standards based performance assessments in every class. Sarah served as the principal of Summer School at Chelsea in 2013, which inspired her to pursue a career as a school leader.
