Fall 2014 Boston College English Graduate
Student Colloquium: "Negotiating Domesticity"
November 21, Friday, 4:45 - 9:00 p.m.
Call for Papers
The Fall 2014 Boston College English Graduate Student Colloquium will be held on November 21, and we are calling for papers!
“Home sweet home” – it’s proverbially “where the heart is” and where “you can’t go again,” “a man’s castle,” “a woman’s place.” The domestic environment provides safety, security, and refuge – but also serves as the site of constraining feminine roles, spousal and child abuse, secrets hidden from the outside world. Is the domestic household, in fact, a space of retreat from the chaos of the public sphere? And if so, why are its boundaries so nebulous, its signification so complex, and its ideological construction so readily questionable?
We welcome papers that explore or interrogate any aspect of domesticity – via these issues or others. Please submit a 5–7 page paper for a 12–15 minute presentation. Papers must be submitted by October 27 for consideration. Please email all submissions and questions to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We need help! Help us design flyers, market the event, or read submissions. We also need help with set-up or tear-down on the day of the event. Contact email@example.com.
