The Woods College of Advancing Studies highlights students each year that represent the core virtues of excellence in learning, service, and ethical sensibility. Each of our awardees have earned grades in their courses that place them in the top 5% of their class and their promise for future achievement embodies the ideals of post-traditional learners. Faculty, staff, and academic advisors all have input in the nomination and selection process.    

The Richard Lombard Award

The Lombard Award is given to the student who displays unmatched academic excellence. This award is presented to a student with the highest cumulative GPA through the semester prior to commencement. Through this student's achievement, he or she embodies the spirit of lifelong learning and exemplifies the sacrifices required of the post-traditional learner.

 

The Rev. Michael Harding, S.J. Award

The Harding Award is given for outstanding achievement in Corporate Systems, the Woods College of Advancing Studies’ major with the largest number of enrolled students. Students in this discipline are challenged to interweave theory, practice and an interest in management with a broad liberal arts education and a focus on social responsibility. This award recognizes a student who has met this challenge while also excelling personally and academically.

 

The Rev. George A. Morgan, S.J. Award  

The Morgan Award is given to a graduating student who embodies post-traditional education through demonstrated excellence, personally, professionally and academically. Post-traditional students are confronted with a broad array of challenges, and the recipient of this award has confronted these challenges while maintaining a high level of excellence.

 

The Harry Doyle Award  

The Doyle Award is presented to a student with outstanding achievement and a commitment to excellence in the fine arts or humanities. Through personal dedication and academic engagement with a subject, such as literature, theater, film or a similar field, this student demonstrates dedication to personal growth, self-expression and creativity.

 

The Dean's Award  

The Dean’s Award is given to a student who demonstrates strong character. Character is exemplified by a student who exhibits the qualities of honor, courage, leadership, scholarship and service. This award will be presented to a student who is service-oriented and has persevered through significant difficulties to complete his or her education.

 

The Rev. Jeremiah O'Connor, S.J. Award

The O’Connor Award is given to a student who has demonstrated leadership and engagement with his or her community, professional field, and/or through personal commitments. This individual exemplifies the Jesuit ideal of “men and women for others” and has lived the Jesuit vision of servant-leadership through community engagement.

 

The Joseph McGuinness Award

The McGuinness Award is given to a graduating student with outstanding achievement in and a commitment to excellence in the field of Psychology or Social Sciences. Through dedication to this field, this individual has pursued rigorous intellectual inquiry and has sought to better understand society, the human mind and behavior.

 

The Woods College Graduate Student Award

The Woods College Graduate Student Award is given to a graduating student that brings together a spirit of service and leadership. Through initiative, academic excellence, strength of character, and a generous spirit, this individual dedicates his or her life to humble leadership and caring service to others.

 

The Woods College Award  - Master's Degree

These awards are presented to students who represent the Woods College through their leadership and service. 2014 was the first year that graduates from the Woods College of Advancing Studies will join other graduating seniors in their march down Linden Lane. Two students are given the honor of leading their classmates into the future by carrying their school’s banner and leading them into the stadium. Banner carriers are thus chosen from among their peers as two students who truly lead and are unafraid to look to the future and meet the challenges that it will bring.

 

The Woods College Award  - Bachelor's Degree

These awards are presented to students who represent the Woods College through their leadership and service. Last year (2014) was the first year that graduates from the Woods College of Advancing Studies will join other graduating seniors in their march down Linden Lane. Two students are given the honor of leading their classmates into the future by carrying their school’s banner and leading them into the stadium. Banner carriers are thus chosen from among their peers as two students who truly lead and are unafraid to look to the future and meet the challenges that it will bring.

 

Honoree to Receive Master's Degree in Alumni Stadium

One individual from a Woods College of Advancing Studies graduate program is selected to receive his or her degree from Boston College President, Fr. Leahy, in Alumni Stadium during the May commencement ceremony. The honor is given to a graduate student who embodies scholarly excellence, inspires others through active leadership, and has a clear vision for how he or she can be more in the world.

 

Honoree to Receive Bachelor's Degree in Alumni Stadium

One individual from the Woods College of Advancing Studies Bachelor of Arts program is selected to receive his or her degree from Father President in Alumni Stadium during the May commencement ceremony. The honor is given to an undergraduate student who embodies scholarly excellence, inspires others through active leadership, and has a clear vision for how he or she can be more in the world.
