More than 3 out of 4 households nearing retirement hold debt

Among families with a near-elderly head (age 55-64), "more than three-quarters...held debt in 2016 (77.1%). While this level represents a downward trend from 2007 when it was 81.7%, it remains higher than the proportion in 1992 (71.4%)," according to an EBRI analysis of data from the survey of Consumer Finances.
