Almost 40% of the 55+ Population is Employed, About the Same as at the Start of the Recession

"The share of the 55-plus population that was employed stood at 37.9 percent in May 2012, a figure that has remained relatively stable since the start of the recession," according to a 2012 AARP report based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
