Windows Server Administration

The Windows Systems Administration group supports multiple versions of Microsoft’s Windows Operating systems such as Windows 2003, Windows 2008, and Windows 2012.  Currently, there are more than 400 Windows servers in the data center. The support group is made up of five Systems Administrators and a Manager. The Windows Systems Administrators are responsible for:

·        Operating system installation

·        Windows patching

·        Windows security

·        Server recovery in the event of a problem

·        Performance adjustment to the servers

·        Windows upgrades

·        Troubleshooting assistance to the applications groups

·        Hardware maintenance and repair

·        Radius VPN Administration and maintenance


The Windows group is responsible for maintaining the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) environment.  This software allows for central control over user access to desktops and servers.  With AD, the Windows Systems Administration group can apply rules that help better manage groups of users and workstations across the university. The group controls Domain management, OU and Group Policies, LDAP feeds, account management, MS Exchange intergration, etc.
