The Infrastructure group is primarily responsible for all of the network rooms, cable plant and conduit/manhole systems on campus. The group also performs project management services for all networking infrastructure associated with university construction and renovation projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Working with BC Facilities Services on all capital construction projects relating to communications infrastructure systems
  • Manhole placement, design and deployment for all university areas
  • Engineering of cable tray and rack systems for interior riser and feeder cabling
  • Coordinating communications facilities with other utilities (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.)
  • Cable conduit system design and specification for inter/intra building spaces and aerial poles
  • Interpreting and enforcing industry standards for cabling, environmental spaces, electrical, grounding and building codes as they relate to communications infrastructure
  • Defining voice/data/video communications and infrastructure needs for all campus-wide construction projects, including meeting with end users and management to assess networking, telephone and cable television requirements
  • Preparing CAD drawings and project definitions for bid purposes
  • Preparing RFP and infrastructure design documents
