Mapping a drive for AppsStorage.bc.edu

the bc application server

You may "map" access to the AppsStorage space (L: drive) on your local Windows computer so that it is easily accessed directly via (My) Computer.

You MUST launch an application first, before mapping the drive.

BC Domain Computers

Windows 10

Follow these instructions:

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC.
  2. Click the Computer tab at the top of the screen.
  3. Click Map network drive button in the ribbon menu.
  4. Select Map network drive.

  1. Choose the drive you want AppsStorage to map to (L: in the example below); you can use any drive not already in use.

    If possible, we suggest that you select "L" since this is how AppsStorage is referenced within Apps.bc.edu.

  2. In the Folder field, enter \\appsstorage.bc.edu\YourUserName
  3. Make sure Reconnect at sign-in is checked.
  4. Click Finish and the drive will automatically open and reveal any files you have saved.

It will now be permanently listed under This PC along with your other local drives or other network drives.

Windows 7

Follow these instructions:

  1. From the Start Menu/Windows button.
  2. Right-click on the (My) Computer icon.
  3. Select: Map Network Drive (Figure 1).

  1. Choose the drive you want AppsStorage to map to (K: in the example below); you can use any drive not already in use.

    If possible, we suggest that you select "L" since this is how AppsStorage is referenced within Apps.bc.edu.

  2. In the Folder field, enter \\appsstorage.bc.edu\YourUserName
  3. Make sure Reconnect at log on is checked.
  4. Click OK and the drive will automatically open and reveal any files you have saved.

It will now be permanently listed under (My) Computer along with your other local drives or other network drives.

Windows 8

Before using BC Apps on Windows 8, a setting needs to be changed. Please visit the Walk-In Help Desk in O'Neill 316 to have the setting changed on your computer. Once that is complete, follow these steps to map the drive.

  1. Click on the folder icon in the task bar at the bottom of the Desktop, then click on Computer on the left (Figure 3).
  2. Click Computer at the top.
  3. Click Map Network Drive.
  4. Choose the drive you want AppsStorage to map to K: in the example (figure 2); you can use any drive not already in use.

    If possible, we suggest that you select "L" since this is how AppsStorage is referenced within BC Apps.

  5. In the Folder field, enter \\appsstorage.bc.edu\YourUserName
  6. Make sure Reconnect at log on is checked.
  7. Click OK and the drive will automatically open and reveal any files you have saved.
  8. It will now be permanently listed under (My) Computer along with your other local drives or other network drives.

Windows Computers not on the Domain

You will need to be on-campus or using a VPN connection to BC.

1-6. Follow the instructions for Windows Computers on the Domain steps 1 through 6 (above).

  1. Check the box: Connect using different credentials.
  2. Click Finish.
  3. You will be prompted to authenticate.

    Enter: bc\YourUserName in the username field.
    Enter: your regular BC password in the password field.

Mac OSX

  1. From the Mac Finder, click: Go and select: To Server.
  2. In the window that opens (figure 3), enter: smb://appsstorage.bc.edu/YourUserName .
  3. Click the "+" sign to add the server path to your Favorite Server list.
