Adding a Printer from the BC Network using Windows

windows 10, 8, or 7

To add a printer from the BC network using Windows 10, 8, or 7: 

  1. Windows 10: (a) Click Search (next to Start), type "printers" and then click Printers & scanners.

    Windows 8: (a) If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search. If you're using a touch screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (b) Type Advanced Printer Setup in the search box, click or tap Settings, and then click or tap Advanced Printer Setup.

    Windows 7: (a) Click Start. (b) Select Devices and Printers.
  1. Windows 10: Click Add a printer or scanner.
    Windows 8 & 7: Click Add Printer.

  2. Windows 8 & 7: Select Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer, then click Next.
  3. Scroll down and click The printer that I want isn't listed, then click Next.
    Note: If asked if you want to allow this app to make changes, click Yes.
  4. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then click Next.
  5. In the Hostname or IP address box, enter the printer name followed by ".bc.edu", then click Next.
    Note: If asked about additional port information, leave the default selection and click Next.
  6. Select the type of printer you are using, then click Next.
    Note: If asked about which version of the driver to use, leave the recommended selection and click Next.
  7. On the "Type a printer name window," do the following:
    • In the Printer name box, enter a name for your printer so you can identify it.
    • If you want to make this printer your default printer, check Set as the default printer.
    • Click Next.
  8. On the Printer Sharing window, select Do not share this printer and click Next.
  9. On the "You've successfully added" window, do the following:
    • Click Print a test page.
      Note:
      If the test page did not print correctly, call your TC.
    • When you have successfully printed a test page, click Finish.
