How to Use BC 2-Step Verification

Get Started

The first time you access one of the BC 2-Step services (listed below), you will be prompted to add a phone number to set up BC 2-Step Verification. Follow the online prompts to complete the setup. For help with BC 2-Step Verification, contact the BC Help Center at 617-552-HELP (4357) or help.center@bc.edu.

BC 2-Step Verification is required when accessing the following services:

  • Change BC Password
  • Change Challenge Questions
  • Eagle VPN (as of Sept. 10, 2018)
  • MyBill (as of Oct. 11, 2018)
  • PeopleSoft HR
  • Peoplesoft Financials
  • Refund Request (as of Oct. 11, 2018)

Recommended Browsers: The latest versions of Chrome and Firefox are preferred.

Verification Methods

There are four ways to verify your identity with a secondary device.

  1. Duo App - Push Notification: A push notification is sent to the device, and you can review the request and tap Approve to authenticate. Internet or cellular access is required to use this method. Learn how to get the Duo App for your smartphone or tablet.

  2. Duo App - Mobile Passcode: Authenticate using a passcode generated with Duo Mobile. The app runs on your device so you don't have to have cellular or internet access to authenticate (as you do with push notifications). Learn how to get the Duo App for your smartphone or tablet.

  3. SMS Text Passcode: A text message with a seven-digit passcode is sent to your mobile phone.

  4. Phone Call: You receive an automated phone call that requires you to press any key to authenticate.

Duo Mobile App for Smartphones and Tablets

The Duo Mobile app can be used for BC 2-Step Verification on a smartphone or tablet with or without a network connection. If you don't have a network connection (no data plan or wireless), the app can generate a passcode that can be used to authenticate, and can even work internationally. If you have a network connection, you can use the Push Notification option. NOTE: A network connection is required to install the Duo Mobile app.

Activate the app for any existing smartphone or tablet on your BC 2-Step Verification account:

  1. Go to bc.edu/manage2step (BC sign-in required).
  2. Click Manage Your Devices.
  3. Follow the online instructions to verify your identity.
  4. Next to the smartphone/tablet device, click Device Options, and then click Activate Duo Mobile.
  5. Follow the online prompts to install Duo Mobile on your device.

BC 2-Step Verification Settings

Remember Devices for One Day (24 Hours)

For all BC 2-Step Verification services except Eagle VPN, you can choose to remember a device for one day (24 hours), therefore you will not need to use BC 2-Step Verification multiple times a day. You can approve any computer that you commonly use and will not be required to provide step verification confirmation until 24 hours have elapsed. For example, if you have a desktop and a laptop, you can approve both computers as trusted devices and not have to confirm your identity with a phone until the following day.

Add Phone Numbers to Your Account

  1. Go to bc.edu/manage2step (BC sign-in required).
  2. Click Add a new device.
  3. Follow the online instructions to verify your identity and add your device.

Manage Your BC 2-Step Verification Settings

Use this section to manage default settings, remove devices, or add the duo mobile app to an existing device.

  1. Go to bc.edu/manage2step (BC sign-in required).
  2. Click Manage Your Devices.
  3. Follow the online instructions to verify your identity.
  4. Use the online options to adjust your settings or remove phone numbers from your BC 2-Step Verification account.

NOTE: Changes to your phone number in the “Update Your Address/Phone/Emergency Contact Information” service in Agora Portal will not change existing phone numbers within BC 2-Step Verification. If you get a new phone or phone number, follow the steps above to add a new device to your BC 2-Step Verification account.
