Career Night for the Arts 2016 welcomes students for a night of casual networking and conversation with BC alumni working in the arts and various creative professions. These alumni are passionate about helping BC students turn their own creative talents into successful and rewarding careers. Check out the participating alumni below to see who you would like to speak to on Thursday, November 17th in the Heights Room between 7:00-8:30pm. Nervous about your networking skills? Join Career Center counselors between 6:00-7:00pm before the event for Networking 101, where you can learn tips and get advice on how to make the most of your evening, just next to the Heights Room in the Newton Room. Commercial Theater Investor/Producer, Final Bow Productions

Eric is the founder of Final Bow Productions.  Eric has served as a professional fundraiser in the not-for-profit sector since 2006. Eric's passion for education and the arts has helped him raise several millions of dollars for private institutions in his home state of Massachusetts. With substantial professional experience in fundraising and investor/donor relations and an educational background in business and theatre arts, Eric is able to utilize these skill sets as he explores opportunities to produce and invest in works for the commercial stage. In the corporate sector, Eric has served as a consultant for Brown Brothers Harriman and an MBA Associate/Project Manager at Liberty Mutual, both with headquarters in Boston, MA.

Laura Carlo '80

Morning Program Host, 99.5 WCRB

Laura Carlo has been WCRB’s Morning Program Host for 20 years. She has written, produced and hosted numerous programs for WCRB including "ArtsAlive!" "Laura's Book Nook" "CEO Spotlight" “Making Waves” and "Baroque in Boston."  Under the station's original ownership she also hosted the morning show for the World Classical Network, syndicated in 16 US cities, making her the most listened to stand-alone female music announcer in America, according to Arbitron. She has been both a part-time Music Host and News Anchor on New York's WQXR. Here in Boston, Weekend News Anchor on WBZ Radio and Weekend News Writer/News Producer for WCVB-TV 5; Afternoon News Anchor for Channel 27 (Worcester); and News Director/Morning Anchor on Fall River's WALE Radio. Under her leadership, WALE and WCRB won numerous “Best News” awards from UPI and other prestigious journalism competitions. Ms. Carlo is the female voice for AT&T's national voice recognition system, as well as for entities as diverse as the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department (Arizona), Roche Diagnostics and Macy's of Southern California. Alex Charalambides '96

Co-founder & Managing Director, MassLEAP

Alex Charalambides is a 2011 Worcester Arts Council Fellowship Grant Recipient. He is a first generation American born son of Greek Refugees who fled Communist Dictatorship Romania. Raised in Worcester Massachusetts, he is a Boston College ('96) Graduate who began performing poetry in the fall of 2000. He’s the first poet to represent poetry slam teams from Worcester, Boston & Providence at the annual National Poetry Slam, ranking as high as 5th in the team competition (2003). Alex currently works as a teaching artist, speech & debate coach, performer and Managing Director for Mass LEAP Collective, a 501(c)3 Sponsored Organization that coordinates the annual Louder than a Bomb Massachusetts Youth Poetry Slam Festival. This work was inspired and  informed by his time as founder & director of Speakout! Poetry Collective, a group responsible for mentoring teen poets at the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Festival, coaching & chaperoning Worcester Youth Poetry Slam Teams from 2004 to 2011. He’s appeared as a poetry mentor for the PBS kids series “Fetch,” fronted a musical fusion band called Skint, toured North America for 6 months in 2005/2006 in support of his debut album, “I am B.” He was an original cast member of the Cambridge Poetry Award Winning theater ensemble “Doc Brown’s Poetry Circus.” He’s been a featured artist on WBUR’s Radio OpenSource as well as IndieFeed Performance Poetry & SpokenHeard Podcasts. He continues to host, facilitate workshops, organize & perform at countless events from libraries to rock clubs throughout New England.

Sarah Colwill Brown '14

Marketing and Community Engagement Manager, GrubStreet Creative Writing Center

GrubStreet is one of the nation's leading creative writing centers. As marketing and community engagement manager, Sarah runs all of Grub's major communication channels, edits GrubWritesthe GrubStreet blog, and works with the program team to develop a rich, inclusive learning experience for students. Sarah is also a manuscript consultant and novel instructor at GrubStreet. Her creative work has appeared in Solstice Literary MagazineThe Conium Review, and other places, and her essays have featured on Dead Darlings and elsewhere. She's served on the editorial team for Post Road magazine and The Conium Review and is currently Fiction Editor at Pangyrus magazine. A graduate of GrubStreet's Novel Incubator program, Sarah is at work revising her first novel. She was educated at Leeds University, where she received her BA hons in English Language and Literature (International), with stints at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and the Kansas State University’s Graduate Creative Writing Program, where she was awarded the Seaton Graduate Fellowship in Creative Writing. Most recently, Sarah completed an MA in English Literature at Boston College, where she was awarded an MA fellowship and the Henry Blackwell Essay Prize. Hailing from Yorkshire, England, her life's mission is to introduce the word "sozzard" to the American vernacular. Jane Conway Caspe '83

Fashion Executive, School of Fashion Design, Fashion Group International

Jane Conway Caspe graduated from BC in 1983 with a BA in Psychology. During her junior year she started working as a model for runway, television and advertising. This sparked her interest in fashion and design and she has now been working in the Fashion Industry for the past 30 years. Jane is on the Board of Trustees at the School of Fashion Design and works as a representative and speaker for the school. She is also on the Board of Directors at Fashion Group International and organizes many fashion events, including Boston Fashion Week. Jane owns two fashion related businesses, ACK Originals and The Nantucket Doll Collection Inc. An executive manager and partner at Wildflower Concierge of Nantucket, she also co-authored a book called The Nantucket Diet published by Random House in 2005. Jane owes much of her success to her BC education. She is proud to support the BC community by helping students who are interested in fashion make connections and prosper in the field.

Erin Dionne’s books are Models Don’t Eat Chocolate Cookies (Dial Books 2009), The Total Tragedy of a Girl Named Hamlet (Dial 2010), and Notes from an Accidental Band Geek (Dial 2012). All have been nominated to state and ALA reading lists. Her novel Moxie and the Art of Rule Breaking: A 14 Day Mystery (Dial 2013), is based on the real-life Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum art heist. It was an Edgar Award finalist for 2013. The series continues with Ollie and the Science of Treasure Hunting (Dial 2014), which focuses on pirate treasure and is set on the Boston Harbor islands. A graduate of Boston College (English & Communications, 1997) and Emerson College (MFA, 1999); she teaches writing at Montserrat College of Art and lives outside of Boston with her husband, two children, and a very indignant dog.

Maureen Donovan ‘78

Deputy Director, Harvard Art Museums

Maureen Donovan has been with the Harvard Art Museums since 1978, working in Collections Management before joining the Director’s Office in 2010.The Harvard Art Museums are comprised of three museums—the Fogg Museum, Busch-Reisinger Museum, and Arthur M. Sackler Museum—each with a different history, collection, guiding philosophy, and identity. In November 2014, the Harvard Art Museums reopened to the public with a renovated and expanded facility, designed by Renzo Piano. In addition to providing galleries for permanent, temporary and curricular exhibitions, works from the collection (approximately 250,000 from across the world and spanning thousands of years and all media) are accessible through an expansive Art Study Center. Unique in size and scope among North American museums, the Art Study Center allows visitors to request objects not currently on display in the galleries, facilitating self-directed teaching and learning from works in all media. The Harvard Art Museums are dedicated to creating transformative teaching and learning experiences for students, faculty, and the public. The comprehensive collections are put to work as vital teaching instruments that enhance critical thinking. All of the spaces in the new facility have been designed to facilitate teaching and learning through art. With innovative programs tailored to diverse audiences, the museums are a site for all to convene and discover the power of object-based learning.

Colleen Fitzgerald ‘05

Professor of Photography (University of Maryland), Artist-in-Residence (Noble and Greenough School)

Colleen Fitzgerald is a visual artist and educator. Her practice incorporates experimental and traditional photography, video, and mixed media. She is currently the 2016/17 Artist-in-Residence at the Noble and Greenough school in Massachusetts, a professor at the University of Maryland University College, and a submission reviewer for LensCulture Contemporary Photography. She has also worked as a full-time professor at Memphis College of Art and taught courses at the University of New Hampshire, Parsons School of Design (Assistantship), and original photography courses in Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Colleen earned a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Related Media from Parsons School of Design in New York City, delivers talks at institutions across the country, and exhibits work internationally. Her work has been featured by the Society for Photographic Education, the Filter Photo Festival, the Berlin Foto Biennale, the InVision Photography Festival, the Pingyao Photography Festival, and more. She also enjoys curating exhibitions in order to champion the work of fellow artists.

Mark Haddad ‘87

Interior Designer/Principal, Haddad Hakansson Design Studio

Mark is Principal of Haddad Hakansson Design Studio, an award-winning, full-service interior design firm serving clientele in greater Boston, Cape Cod & Islands, throughout New England and beyond.  Established in 2001, the firm specializes in kitchen and bath design, custom cabinetry, whole house renovation and exceptional home décor.. A Massachusetts native, Mark received his M.Ed. in Creative Arts Education from Lesley University and is certified as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer from the National Kitchen & Bath Association. Prior to beginning his own business, Mark worked as a music teacher and school administrator as well as a vocalist and musical director throughout the Boston area.  In addition, he has taught kitchen and bath design at Boston Architectural College from 2008-2015. Currently, Mark continues to be the choir director at The Church of St. John of Damascus in Dedham, and serves on the board of directors at SpeakEasy Stage Company in Boston.

Chuck Hogan, ‘89

Writer, Producer

Chuck Hogan is a New York Times bestselling novelist, screenwriter, and television producer. His best-known novel THE TOWN was awarded the Hammett Prize for "literary excellence in the field of crime writing," and was adapted into the hit feature film directed by Ben Affleck, starring Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, and Jon Hamm. His feature adaptation of 13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI was directed by Michael Bay and starred John Krasinski and James Badge Dale. With Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, he is the co-creator and executive producer of THE STRAIN on FX Networks. His non-fiction has appeared in The New York Times, Esquire, and ESPN The Magazine, and his short fiction has twice been anthologized in THE BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES.

Christopher is a freelance photographer shooting creative portraiture, headshots, weddings, events, and performing arts. He is often on campus photographing events and portraits, as Boston College was his first major client. His work can be seen at, and He posts his work for BC at In college, he was involved with a lot of arts related extra-curricular activities, including Bostonians, being in two bands playing violin (indie rock/folk and hip hop), being a Halftime and 48 Hours leader, service trips, OLAA, FACES, among others.

Tim Lemire ‘89

Content Strategist,

Tim Lemire is currently a writer/editor for Fidelity Investments. He has been a newspaper editor, as well a copywriter for Hasbro and CVS. In 1996, he received an MFA degree in creative writing (fiction) from the University of Michigan. He is the author of the career guide I'm An English Major--Now What? (Writer's Digest Books), which was originally a handout for Career Night for the Arts.

Director of Communications, Harvard Art Museums

Daron Manoogian is Director of Communications for the Harvard Art Museums, one of the leading arts institutions in the United States. He oversees all external communications, including marketing, advertising, and public relations; media relations; the museums’ public website; as well as the graphic design and editorial departments.  The Harvard Art Museums comprise three museums—including the Fogg Museum, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum—as well as four research centers, and their collections are among the largest in the country with holdings of approximately 250,000 works of art. Following a six year renovation and expansion project, the Harvard Art Museums opened their new facility, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, to the public on November 16, 2014. Prior to his arrival at Harvard in 2005, Manoogian was manager of national program marketing at WBUR, Boston’s National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate, handling the syndication of nationally broadcast public radio programs including The Connection, On Point, Here and Now, and Only A Game.

Lauren Pollock graduated from Boston College in 2007, with a degree in Art History. She continued her graduate studies at Hunter College in New York City, and completed a 6-month internship at The Jewish Museum where she assisted with the exhibition Chagall and the Artists of the Russian Jewish Theater1919-1949. Currently she is Director of Leila Heller Gallery, an art gallery specializing in contemporary international art with locations in New York City and Dubai. There she oversees the gallery’s ambitious exhibition and art fair programme, manages artist relationships, and helps to organize numerous off-site projects. Currently she is serving as the editor of a forthcoming book on the work of Shiva Ahmadi, to be published in 2017.

Alexis Rizzuto received her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Emerson College, where her work won the DuPrey Award. She has taught creative nonfiction at Cazenovia College, Syracuse University, and Boston’s Grub Street Inc. Alexis started in the publishing business at the Kneerim & Williams literary agency, then moved to the editorial side at Da Capo Press before becoming senior editor at Beacon Press where she acquired on the topics of environment and education. She is currently a freelance editor based in Cambridge, MA.

Caroline Shields ‘08

PhD Candidate in Art History, University of Maryland

Caroline is a Ph.D. candidate in art history at the University of Maryland specializing in nineteenth-century European and American art. Her dissertation examines the relationship between objects and memory in the still-life painting of Symbolist artist Paul Gauguin, which she approaches through the lens of period and present-day science. During her graduate career she has taught courses in nineteenth and twentieth century art as a member of the adjunct faculty at local universities, and she has held internships in curatorial departments at the National Gallery of Art, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Prior to entering her graduate program she worked for two years as the Museum Educator and Manager of Outreach Education at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT, where she also curated the exhibition “Circus! Art and Science Under the Big Top.” As an undergraduate at Boston College, she received a BS in art history and geology.

Timothy Stack ‘78

Actor/Writer/Producer, Deetown Productions

Tim moved to Los Angeles and joined the famous improv group, The Groundlings, in 1980.   Small movie roles and TV guest shots led to him getting his first series, “Reggie” in 1983.  Then there was “Our Time” in 1985, “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” in 1989 and while all of this was going on, he began writing.  As a writer, a few TV movies here, some comedy episodes there, a short stint on “SNL”, he got his first staff job in 1993 with a show called “On Our Own”.  He was able to combine the two talents in ’94 by co-creating and starring in the talk-show spoof, “Nightstand With Dick Dietrick”.  He then went on to do the same when he partnered with Howard Stern for the “Baywatch” spoof, “Son of the Beach”.   After that came more writing-acting-producing on “My Name Is Earl” and “Raising Hope”.  And while those two shows were going, he performed 50 editions of “Pumpcast News” for  “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”  Tim is currently a Producer-Writer on the show, “Kirby Buckets” and has several projects in development, including a miniseries at HBO about The Moulin Rouge Hotel in 1950s Las Vegas.  He is very thankful to Boston College. Twitter: @TVsTimStack

Bio: Karen Stein is a designer, educator and public artist. In 2008, she co-founded the design firm goodgood, embracing a cross-disciplinary, collaborative approach. Her work traverses various design mediums including: branding, print, web, environmental design, as well as new media. She considers socio-cultural, economic and environmental factors to be an integral part of the design process. Graduating from Boston College in 1996 with a double major in Philosophy and Political Science, she went on to receive her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Visual Communication. In addition to her design practice, she has taught at local colleges including the Museum School, MassArt, Tufts and UMass Dartmouth.

William Vareika '74

President & Art Dealer, William Vareika Fine Arts

Bill Vareika is a gallery owner, specialist in 18th and 19th century American art, writer, lecturer, community activist, preservationist, and philanthropist. A 1974 graduate of Boston College with a degree in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, Vareika abandoned law school plans to move to Newport to volunteer to direct a six year legal battle to save a historic church in Newport, RI which was decorated by John La Farge, a 19th century American artist he had discovered in his one art history course at BC. Vareika’s first job after college was as a part time custodian at the Newport Art Association, now the Newport Art Museum, where he later served as a trustee for over twenty years. In this early period, he also helped to support himself as a modest art dealer, commonly referred to as a “picker.” He later took a leave of absence from graduate studies in American Civilization at Brown University in order to begin a serious career as an art dealer. Over the past 29 years, William Vareika Fine Arts, Ltd has grown into one of the largest and most respected galleries in the US, specializing in the purchase and sale of important 18th, 19th and early 20th century works of art. Vareika has also used his gallery as a tool to raise public awareness and millions in funding for a long list of non-profit organizations.

Stephen Zubricki III '89

Principal Designer , Mystic View Design, Inc., Graphic Design and Photography

Stephen Zubricki III earned a Marketing Degree from Boston College, CSOM. Since 1994, he has worked at Mystic View Design, a family owned graphic design and photography firm that produces corporate collateral and websites for public and private clients. He runs the day to day operations of the business, is a photographer and also a web developer. He has enjoyed meeting people from many industries and traveling to shoot photography for his clients.
