Lenten Series on Ignatian Spirituality

Rev. Jim Fleming, SJ, Assistant to the Vice President for Mission and Ministry, and Rev. Paul Harman, SJ, Rector, BC Jesuit Community, recently spoke at the Boston College Club as part of the "Lenten series on Ignatian spirituality," co-sponsored with the Alumni Association and the New England Jesuits.

 

C21 Series on Women

C21 Series on WomenOn Monday, February 26, C21 hosted an event titled "Called to be Catholic: Religious Practices that Nourish Women's Spirituality." The event featured Nancy Pineda-Madrid, Assistant Professor, Theology Department and IREPM; Sr. Mary Sweeney, S.C., Campus Minister; and Kate Carter, IREPM Alumna. This was the second of three scheduled events in the C21 Series on Women this academic year. The final event, which is co-sponsored with IREPM will take place on Wednesday, April 18, in Fulton 511 with Colleen Griffith, Associate Professor, IREPM.

 

Philip Jenkins lecture

Philip Jenkins lectureOn Thursday, February 22, Philip Jenkins, Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies and History at Penn State University spoke on "Believing in the Global South." Jenkins is the author of two books addressing the growth of the Church in the Southern hemisphere and in Asia. The lecture was part of the Lowell Humanities Series. A video of this lecture is available on the C21 website. His talk will also be featured in the Spring, 2007 issue of Boston College Magazine.

Jim Keenan, SJ at Agape Latte

Jim Keenan, SJ at Agape LatteOn Tuesday, February 6, Jim Keenan of the Theology Department spoke on "Family Dynamics of the Church: Love and Disagreement" to another packed house at the monthly undergraduate series, "Agape Latte." (See video of the talk on the "Student Corner" section of the C21 website). Upcoming Agape Latte speakers include: Dr. Marina Mc Coy on April 3 and Kenneth R. Himes, OFM, on May 1.

Bishop Blase Cupich of Rapid City

On Friday, February 23, Bishop Blase Cupich of Rapid City, South Dakota, visted Boston College and met with faculty, administrators, and students across campus. Bishop Cupich is the episcopal adviser on behalf of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops to the Emerging Models of Pastoral Leadership project (www.emergingmodels.org) and he chairs the bishops' committee on vocations. He participated in the C21 hosted conference "Handing on the Faith" and authored an essay in the volume that emerged from that conference.
