Spotlight on You (and Your Leaders!)
In recent weeks, CEOs of prominent companies have spoken out against racial inequality and violence. Here are just a few examples from our member community, and you can read more in our blog, Business Support for Protests of Racial Inequality:
Travelers has announced a commitment of $1 million to assist nonprofits dedicated to advancing racial equality across the United States and rebuilding damaged businesses in Minnesota, where the company has had a significant presence for more than 165 years. “The gravity of this moment demands meaningful action, and Travelers has a long history of helping our communities in times of need,” said Alan Schnitzer, chairman and chief executive officer of The Travelers Companies, Inc. “Two ways we are stepping up right now are by supporting the important work of advancing racial equality and rebuilding our communities in the Twin Cities, where so many of our colleagues live and work.”
Nike announced a $40 million commitment over the next four years to supporting organizations that put social justice, education, and addressing racial inequality in America at the forefront of their missions. "Systemic racism and the events that have unfolded across America over the past few weeks serve as an urgent reminder of the continued change needed in our society. We know Black Lives Matter. We must educate ourselves more deeply on the issues faced by Black communities and understand the enormous suffering and senseless tragedy racial bigotry creates," said John Donahoe, president and CEO of Nike, Inc.

Fifth Third Bank has become the first Fortune 500 company to achieve 100% renewable power with solar aloneafter investing in a solar farm in North Carolina. The new facility spans nearly 1,400 acres and is one of the largest solar installations in the state. "It's very exciting," said Scott Hassell, Fifth Third's director of sustainability. "We're excited to be able to drive that kind of investment and drive that leadership to show that companies can be bold leaders on renewable power and help us accelerate this transition to renewable power."
The UPS Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, announced a commitment of $3 million in new funding and in-kind logistics support spanning two years, extending their long-time partnership in support of healthcare supply chain management. The funding will enable Gavi to continue to strengthen supply chain networks that deliver life-saving vaccines to children in the world’s poorest countries, and expand coverage of essential childhood vaccines with the mission of eliminating childhood deaths from avoidable diseases.
