Insights: U.S. Legal System Certificate Program

Insights programs are in-depth, five-day professional development programs for international and U.S. students, legal educators, and legal professionals.

Join expert Boston College Law School faculty for a 5-day introduction to the U.S. legal system, to the role of the lawyer in the U.S., and to legal problem-solving. Through simulated problems, learn how civil and criminal cases are handled in the U.S., and about the facilitative role lawyers play in business transactions. Sessions are interactive; participants will engage in a mock trial, among other activities.

We will need your full legal name and your current address for the letter. In addition, please register and pay the $1,000 USD registration fee so that you are guaranteed a place in the program. If your VISA is denied, you will receive a full refund of the registration fee, minus a $100 USD administrative fee. Please note that we cannot offer individual advice on whether a visa is required.

General Information:

All programming will occur at Boston College Law School, 885 Centre St., Newton, MA 02459.

The program fee includes approximately 5 to 6 hours per day of instruction and small group discussions, all program materials, and breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day.

Participants are responsible for all other expenses, including travel and visa expenses, insurance, housing, local transportation, and any meals or other items not listed above.

Insights: ADR in the U.S.

Join expert Boston College Law School faculty for a five-day introduction to the U.S. Legal System and to the practice of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the United States, with a special guest presentation by Macarena Letelier, Director of the Centro de Arbitracion y Mediacion in Santiago, Chile, on Alternative Dispute Resolution in Latin America.

Through trainings and simulations, as well as panel discussions across a range of industries, learn how U.S. lawyers think about legal problems and the special role played by arbitrators and mediators in solving them. We also explore the benefits of mindfulness in the practice of conflict resolution for practitioners. This program includes two special site visits to meet with specialist ADR Judges of the United States Federal District Court and prominent conflict resolution organizations in Boston, MA, USA.
