The Applied Research Department (ARD) seeks to promote the advancement of human knowledge with a special focus on elucidating the truth in all things and toward the promotion of moral and ethical development through interdisciplinary applied research, scholarship, programming, and collaborative explorations.

In accordance with Boston College’s Mission Statement, the ARD’s focus and scope orient to the development of a series of research initiatives that are first and foremost concerned with Character Formation and Virtue Ethics within WCAS applied professions. The department’s goal is to engage Program Directors, faculty, research fellows, and student scholars through creative interdisciplinary conferences and workshops, promoting faculty and student scholarly collaboration, and informing WCAS’s pedagogy, all of which further prepare students for lives of service.
