In a letter to members of Boston College's Class of 2020, Vice President of Student Affairs Joy Moore shared that while the University is unable to host the events tentatively planned for October due to COVID-19, discussions are underway to host a 1st year reunion in June of 2021. This reunion event will be dedicated to celebrating the Class of 2020 and all that they accomplished during their time at Boston College.
The university awards degrees in May, August, and December of each year and holds the Commencement Ceremony each year in May. Students who have completed all requirements for the degree before a specific graduation date are eligible to receive the degree as of the university’s next official graduation date. A diploma will not be dated before all work is completed.
This form begins the graduation clearance process. You will need to complete additional forms and provide information at a later date if you are approved to graduate. This information will be sent to your BC email address only. It is strongly advised that undergraduate students schedule an appointment with your Advisor after filling out this form and meet with them prior to the end of the Add/Drop period of your final semester.
Students who graduate in December or August may participate in commencement exercises the following May (this is called “walking” in the ceremony).
The deadline for students graduating in December 2020 to submit the Intent to Graduate form is Monday, October 5. No extensions will be allowed.
After the Intent form is submitted, the student will receive confirmation that Woods College has received the form and that the review process has begun. The academic team will audit the student’s file and academic record to find if student will or will not meet the requirements to graduate. The student will be contacted by email with a determination that their intent is confirmed or denied.
STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT THE FORM BY THE DEADLINE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR GRADUATION CLEARANCE.
If a student’s course schedule deviates in any way after they have submitted the intent form, they must resubmit the form with the changes reflected to be considered for graduation clearance.
- Graduate students, please proceed to step 3.
- Undergraduate students should set an appointment with their advisor once they have submitted the “Intent to Graduate Form.” This will allow you to review your form, program of study and to have your intent to graduate approved.
Students who already received the Diploma the prior semester may skip this step.
Deadlines to verify diploma names:
You must provide your name, as you wish for it to appear on your diploma, using the Diploma Name Information section in Agora Portal.

This will ensure that your diploma is printed correctly and that you are listed in the University Commencement Program. Please note that only your name, degree, and Latin honors (if applicable) are printed on your diploma.
If you have any questions about updating Diploma Name please contact Student Services Office, 617-552-3300.
After finishing your courses many changes will occur to your email account and other computing services, the time will depend on your graduation term. To make sure you are able to receive them you must have these messages forwarded to another email address.
This is an important step and is required for students graduating in August and December if they wish to participate in the Commencement ceremony in May. Students who fail to set up email forwarding may miss out on important information about participation in Commencement.
We highly recommend you to check the Information Technology Services website where you will find detailed information about what happens to your email and other computing services by the term of graduation.
Any graduating Woods College student who has received any federal student loans and/or disbursements from Boston College must complete an exit interview with the Financial Services Office, prior to leaving the University. Failure to complete an exit interview or to resolve any outstanding financial obligation to the University will result in a hold being placed on your diploma and transcript.
Detailed information about the exit interview process is available online at the Student Services website.
If you have any questions, call the Office of Student Services at 617-552-3300 or 800-294-0294 and ask to speak with a member of the Loan Repayment staff.
