Why does Woods work for you? My Woods College experience has been phenomenal. The professionalism of the staff is exceptional. For example, the timely and thorough responses to all my pre-admission inquiries were important in my decision. Since enrollment, this degree of professionalism and support is evident among the entire Woods College staff. Additionally, evening classes allow a mix of working professionals and young adults, whose experiences and perspectives further enrich learning.
What has been your favorite class? My favorite class so far has been Contemporary American Ethnic Literature. One of the things I enjoyed about this class was the rich and robust classroom engagement experiences, which Professor Akua Sarr facilitated exceptionally well. The literature chronicles the experiences of ethnic writers, and our classroom discussions were challenging and uncomfortable, but they were necessary in aiding the development of our critical thinking, as well as in our understanding of social justice and change.

Favorite class or professor? This is a difficult question to answer because I have had many favorite professors and classes. Law and Society with Judge Menno, Business Law with Professor Powers, and White Collar Crime with Professor McConville. I enjoyed all of these classes because they all taught me knowledge which not only I can use in my everyday life, but knowledge which is beneficial for everyone else whom I may be surrounded by. To know that one day I may apply this knowledge to help those around me is extremely important and valuable to me.

Healthcare Administration, Class of 2022
The materials I have learned, and the perspectives I have gleaned from my classmates have made me more well-rounded, educated, and confident in my current role. It has helped me to shape my vision of what my next step will be, and I am currently networking and actively taking steps towards that next role. I can confidently say I wouldn’t be headed down the path I am without pursuing this degree, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Favorite course or pofessor? Although I’m only one-third into the program, my favorite class to date remains Intro to Healthcare Systems and Organizations. The course was such a great overview of the healthcare ecosystem and touched upon so many important and relevant topics in healthcare today. Learning the course materials while gaining the diverse perspectives from my classmates was invaluable. With that said, all the professors in the program have been wonderful—always accessible and willing to help with questions or if you are looking for resources to dig deeper into topics.
Why does the Woods College work for you? The Woods College is the perfect fit for me because of the online platform and condensed courses. It allows me to pursue my MHA while working full time and juggling my family commitments because I can do my class work on my own time and schedule. I love the optional office hours and the ability to get to know my professors and classmates; it helps to bring the topics to life and feels like I’m part of a community despite being 100% remote.

My dream and mission is to run for Congress. Whether I win or lose isn't going to stop me because I know I want to at least try once in my life. With Criminal Justice, you take courses that are broad enough to touch different aspects of government, law, and politics, from philosophy, statistics, political science, to traditional court law. Every class I have taken here at my time at Boston College will be able to translate into the work I want to do and broaden my network.
Hometown: Saugus, MA
Program: B.A., Criminal Justice (Pre Law Track)
Favorite class or professor? My favorite classes would have to be Social Political Philosophy by Professor Melissa Fitzpatrick and Intro to Criminology by Kristin Bullwinkel. Both classes are amazing and really opened my eyes to how education is more than the content of the lesson plan and are taught by two kind and strong women that I'm glad I got to meet!
Why does the Woods College work for you? Since attending, one of the biggest strengths would be the flexibility. There were times with COVID that I needed to go at a different pace than my peers to balance work and school life. I found that the flexibility here allows me to go the pace that is healthy for me but to also feel like i'm not lagging behind due to the strong advising system. Additionally, it has allowed me to get involved on campus being an RA, joining the Asian Caucus eboard and AHANA Pre-Law Student Association, and much more!

I have learned so many foundational skills that have allowed me to converse intelligently with others, whether it be colleagues in marketing, finance, HR, or the C-Suite.

Favorite course or professor? Health Ethics and Law. I was drawn to the course material as legal and ethical issues within the healthcare sector are at the forefront during the global pandemic we are living through. Every week we had insightful discussions in class about some of the most pressing healthcare issues facing the world. The professor created such an open and collegial class atmosphere that made it easy to engage and learn.

The curriculum is academically rigorous, the faculty are world-class subject matter experts, the program staff are friendly and helpful, and the program is designed in a way that allows students to not only survive but thrive. Having said that, I would have to say my favorite class is Ethics with Professor Severson. The group of students in my current ethics class are passionate, encouraging and show great concern for others. I am honored to be included in meaningful discussions and have learned a great deal.
B.A., Class of 2021
As a Manresa Scholar, I was required to read Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. With the more apparent racial unrest of 2020, reading the book inspired me to pursue my desire to work within the black community after graduation. All of the required readings for specific Woods College courses propels students to allow purpose to be the motivator for the academic work we are consistently completing. It allows students to understand that having an education is less about being financially stable and being at a personal advantage in the long run, but turning our focus onto how we can make the world a better place to live in with the knowledge we gain.
Hometown: Melrose, MA
Program: B.A., Psychology
Favorite class or professor? This is a tough question, but I would have to say Global Literature with Professor Sarr. The books my classmates and I read were interesting and allowed us to vicariously travel through the books, (considering that we could not safely travel at the time due to COVID restrictions) and understand the different experiences of the characters from different parts of the world. The course was not structured in the typical way of answering specific questions about the reading material. Most of the questions were applicable to real life situations and it allowed us to become more open-minded to the way others think and live outside of Western society. Additionally, answering these types of questions allowed us to apply our external studies and experiences and share our different perspectives with each other for a more holistic comprehension of the books read.
Why does the Woods College work for you? The Woods College works for me because of the flexibility it provides. The courses are held once a week. Woods College also provides the option to enroll in day school courses. I am able to work while in school and the undergraduate academic journey is essentially at my own pace. At the Woods College, I feel less pressure to obtain my B.A in the standard rate of four years. Furthermore, it allows me to enjoy the process of learning more and really cherish the time I have left!
