Karen Muncaster became dean of the Woods College in July 2019.
A nationally recognized leader in online education, Dean Muncaster has extensive experience in graduate and professional studies, summer and continuing studies, and pre-college and lifelong learning programs. Prior to joining Boston College, she was vice president of the Rabb School of Continuing Studies at Brandeis University, where her strategic vision positioned the school as a leader in online learning and led to the development of new partnerships, programs, and course formats throughout the university.
She has served as commissioner of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Commission of Institutes of Higher Education (now the New England Commission of Higher Education), and held positions as vice president of professional and continuing education at Boston Architectural College, associate vice president for academic technology and program planning at Lesley University, and dean of continuing education at Southern New Hampshire University, where she launched the school’s highly successful online educational division. She also has taught high school special education classes.
Dean Muncaster holds a bachelor’s degree in special and elementary education from Indiana University, a master’s degree in education from Tufts University, and a doctoral degree in higher education from the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College
