STM prides itself on being a school that is deeply aware of context – both in how it informs our theology, and also how it shapes the realities of our students. We recognize that some students cannot commit to moving to Boston full-time, but are interested in pursuing an STM degree, and with it, the resources of a world-class Jesuit, Catholic institution. Below is information about two programs we offer that can be completed from a distance – a hybrid M.A. in theology and ministry and an 18-credit Certificate in Theology and Ministry.
We also offer a robust Continuing Education program, in both English and Spanish, which offers vast resources for ongoing faith formation and enrichment. More information can be found below.
Students typically take on-campus courses during the summer, when on-campus housing is available, and leverage online courses during the fall and spring. Because our program features both in-person and online interaction, students maintain close connections with their classmates.
Explore a specific area of ministry or an expansive range of theological and pastoral areas through this flexible 18-credit certificate. Complete the program through a combination of academic year, summer, or online offerings. This certificate can also be completed fully online.
Synchronous courses are conducted in real time. In asynchronous courses there is no weekly day/time that students are required to be online; however, students must check in frequently, often on a daily basis, to complete assignments and/or engage in written discussion sessions.
"I am truly grateful for the opportunity to pursue a world-class theological education through this 'best-of-both-worlds' approach, in-person learning and on-line education. The blend allows people from all over the world, with like hearts and faith-inspired intentions, to collaborate and create an invaluable support network of colleagues and resources in ministry. My original goal entering the STM was preparation for a career change, but the magical combination of experiences has also led to a deepening of faith and renewed commitment to serve the Church.” — Lynn Berardelli CSOM ’88, STM ‘20
"The Hybrid MA in Theology and Ministry Program has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with other faith-filled individuals on transmitting faith to those we minister to! Through both academic and spiritual learning experiences, this program continues to equip me with the tools necessary to be a witness of Christ to those I serve. With the ability to take synchronous and asynchronous classes throughout the year, I am able to apply and transmit what I've learned to my ministry as a high school educator." — Narciso Matthew Gonzales Bernardo
With a focus on shared reflection in an online learning community, Crossroads offers non-credit courses for spiritual enrichment and faith renewal.
