Sophie Hansen, MSW, LCSW, is a part-time faculty member at the Boston College School of Social Work. Obtaining her degree at Simmons, she specialized in children and families, with an emphasis on trauma and psychiatric health care. She works full-time as the State Government Relations Manager for Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA), a nonprofit health care organization and payer for those with both Medicaid (MassHealth) and Medicare, also known as Dual-Eligibles. She is responsible for developing and executing the organization's State agenda, monitoring relevant legislation and policy as well as educating policymakers about CCA's nationally-recognized model for Duals.
Sophie continues her clinical practice in the Emergency Department at Boston Children's Hospital as a Medical Social Worker and Psychiatric Clinician. Previously, she was the Political Director at the National Association of Social Workers, MA Chapter. She is passionate about highlighting the link between clinical and macro social work, emphasizing how policy can impact social workers as well as clients and the power of advocacy to reform.
