Profile

Tom Walsh, PhD, is the Associate Dean and Director of the MSW Program. He chairs the school’s Academic Planning Committee, which oversees the structure and content of the MSW curriculum. He currently serves as a member of the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) Commission on Accreditation, reviewing accreditation self-study materials for BSW and MSW programs. He has served as a member of the CSWE Commission on Educational Policy, which writes the curriculum policy that is used by the Commission on Accreditation to formulate CSWE accreditation standards. He continues in his role as a commissioner visitor in reviewing programs that are in candidacy for accreditation.

His research interests are in forensic social work, and he has published in the areas of psychopathy and substance abuse. Dr. Walsh is the former Executive Director of the Massachusetts Prison Mental Health Program. He was appointed to serve on the Governor’s Commission on Correctional Reform at Bridgewater State Hospital and the Massachusetts Alcohol & Substance Abuse Center.  He currently serves on the Governor’s Social Work Education Working Group on Substance Misuse.

Dr. Walsh has taught Psychosocial Pathology, Basic Skills in Clinical Social Work, and Clinical Practice with Adults. He holds an appointment as an Associate Clinical Social Worker at McLean Hospital.
