Reaching Children Where They Are
Each year, BC students go into the community to bring music to children at area schools. Professor Barbara Gawlick arranges outreach programs and leads students towards careers in music education.
Music Outreach Program offers music majors/minors an opportunity to apply their skills and passion for music by teaching voice or instrumental lessons to children and teens in the Allston/Brighton inner-city schools. For most of these children/teens this may be the only opportunity to try an instrument !Music Outreach is also faculty mentored!
Commitment: 1-2 hours of teaching once a week, anytime from 2:00-5:00 p.m.; transportation expenses are covered; all instruments are welcome!

"Genesis" (2014) is a short film documenting the musical journey of one of the children benefiting from the BC Music Outreach Initiative
On Sunday, February 8, 2015 the Music Department hosted a family concert open to the community. Families, BC students, and neighbors gathered to hear Peter Watchorn on harpsichord as Johann Sebastian Bach! He was joined by Boston musicians in a performance of Bach's cantata 196.
