Exemplary Math Educators Project (2013-2020)

Boston College (Lynch School of Education and the Math department), in partnership with Math for America-Boston and Education Development Center, under the support of the National Science Foundation, is pleased to announce two new fellowship programs to address the needs of highly qualified mathematics teachers in high needs school districts.

BC-MfA-Boston Noyce Teaching Fellowship

In this program, highly select groups of teaching fellows will participate in a five-year integrated program of study for a Master of Science in Teaching degree (one year) at Boston College and systematic professional development (four years) during their formative years as new teachers, with a curriculum that seamlessly interweaves content, pedagogical content knowledge, and pedagogy.

Applicants to the BC-MfA-Boston Noyce Teaching fellows must

  • have bacherlor's degree (OR have the degree conferred by 2014) in mathematics or another STEM field
  • be a United States citizens or US permanent residents
  • commit to teach for at least four years in a high-need district upon successful completion of the master's degree program. Boston and Framingham are preferred districts.
  • not yet have initial licensure

BC-MfA-Boston Noyce Teaching Fellows will

  • receive a full scholarship to Boston College’s Master of Science in Teaching (MST) degree program in mathematics
  • receive a stipend during the MST year (Year 1) of $10,000 for living expenses.
  • receive a stipend of $10,000 per year over Years 2-5.
  • become a Math for America-Boston Fellow and participate in enhanced professional development programs
  • be paired with an experienced teacher mentor for advice and support

BC-MfA-Boston Noyce Master Teacher Fellowship

This project will recruit and support outstanding practicing teachers in mathematics from high-­need school districts who have exhibited excellent skills and knowledge and the capability for developing and sustaining classrooms that illustrate the Common Core State Standards practice standards to become highly qualified instructional leaders and mentors.

Applicants to the BC-MfA-Boston Noyce Master Teacher must

  • have a master's degree in mathematics, education, or a related field
  • be a US citizen or US permanent resident
  • teach in a high-­need school and have deep knowledge of content and MA Curriculum Framework for Mathematics
  • be recognized for excellence in teaching by school or district administrators.

BC-MfA-Boston Noyce Master Teachers will

  • receive a stipend of $10,000 per year for five years
  • continue their education by taking one pre-approved course at Boston College each year for free (in mathematics, mathematics eduation, or leadership)
  • become a Math for America - Boston Fellow
  • participate actively in the professional learning community established by Math for America - Boston and the Educational Development Center and contribute to Boston College's Pre-Service Teacher Education Programs
  • be a mentor to a Noyce Teaching Fellow
