The interaction of the plant Festuca arundinacea (fescue) and its host Streptomyces sp. UYFA156. The goal is to identify genes involved in the differential interaction of this strain with two different varieties of fescue, one on which it promotes growth, and one on which it does not. We will approach this through the construction of a library of mutants and sequencing them according to their phenotypes (Tn-seq). We hypothesize that there is a differential gene expression depending on the variety of fescue with which the endophyte interacts. This information will be of relevance to the study of plant-endophyte interactions and for future applications in biofertilizers development.
