What attracted you to coninue working with UCTC? "I was very passionate about volunteering and knew I wanted to be a teacher, so UCTC seemed like the perfect fit. I grew up Catholic, but never attended Catholic school, so I was very interested in the opportunity to strengthen my faith through my work with students and with my peers in the program. Throughout my time in UCTC, I fell in love with Catholic Education and grew so much in my faith, in my profession, and as a person. My experience in the program was truly an invaluable experience, and I will forever treasure the lessons I learned and the friendships I made. When the opportunity to work with the new UCTC members arose, I was happy to jump on board! It will be a blessing to reconnect with the community and be able to give back some of what I learned from the program."

What attracted you to continue working with UCTC? "I was a member of UCTC from 2011-2013 and simply loved the experience of living in community as I experienced the trials and triumphs of first year teaching. I grew so much over those two years in both my teaching and in my faith life. And, all of this alongside the most wonderful people, who have become lifelong friends. Now, as a sixth year teacher, I am eager to work with the new UCTC cohorts so that their years in the program may be as formative and life-changing as mine."

What attracted you to working with UCTC? "I was a member of UCTC's Cohort 20, Class of 2018, where I credit my personal, teaching, and spiritual growth to my two years in UCTC. I decided to work with UCTC when the opportunity arose to work on the Special Education Professional Development Initiative to help teachers grow in their ability to serve all learners."

What attracted you to  working with UCTC? "After graduating from BC, I served as a volunteer at Cristo Rey New York High School in East Harlem for two years. My two years at Cristo Rey cemented my commitment to ensuring quality Catholic Education for all students. I love that working with UCTC's recruitment process allows me to play a direct role in the recruitment of teachers who are committed both to their students, and the long-term future of Catholic Education in Boston."

As a graduate of the program, I find the values of simple living, teaching as ministry, community and spirituality to be fundamental as I continue my career as an urban Catholic Educator."

What attracted you to continuing to work with UCTC? "UCTC not only has a strong teacher effectiveness program, but it also has a well-structured research team passionate about using data-driven methods. I felt that I could be a part of the UCTC community as a graduate assistant, engaging my quantitative skills to approach UCTC from a research point of view."

Why did you feel called to work with UCTC? "Having attended a Catholic elementary and high school and recognized the value of such an education, I want to contribute to a body of research literature that examines Catholic education from a variety of perspectives. The experiences of UCTC members--in addition to those of their students and school communities--offer one such series of perspectives, and I'm excited to grow in my ability as a researcher while working with the UCTC community."

Why did you feel called to work with UCTC? "As a person of color, I understand the need for teachers in UCTC. The reason I enjoy working with UCTC is because they work towards creating teachers that confront messages of inferiority that many students in urban education internalize. Growing up, I received an urban education. I grew up thinking that I wouldn’t get far in life because of who I was and my current circumstances. I can recall two high school teachers that saw potential in me. They truly cared about more than just my academic performance, but my emotional and mental well-being as well. They took care of me as a whole and UCTC creates teachers in urban education that care about the whole student."

"As someone who has attended many different Catholic schools around Boston, what attracted me to work with UCTC was the opportunity to work with people who are passionate about serving the Catholic schools of the Boston area while gaining perspective on education from the perspective of an educator."
