Research & Evaluation Data Manager

City Connects is an innovative and evidence-based approach to addressing the out-of-school factors that can impact students’ achievement and thriving in schools. Currently implemented in over 80 schools across five states, City Connects collaborates closely with districts, schools, and partnering community agencies to connect every student to a tailored set of supports and enrichments in the school and community. City Connects, housed at Boston College, seeks a full-time Data Manager to join its evaluation team. The Data Manager will play a leadership role in all aspects of database creation, data management, and data cleaning for multi-site research projects. This position will have responsibility for data organization, and for contributing to statistical analyses, general interpretation, and reporting of results. The position involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team.

The responsibilities of the Data Manager are to:

● Contribute to database creation and management

● Carry out data cleaning for large databases

● Maintain detailed written documentation of all programming and data files

● Establish and monitor data quality control policies and procedures, including data cleaning (e.g., performing logic and range checks), protection of sensitive data,reporting, and ensuring the reliability and integrity of results

● Contribute to statistical analyses for evaluation and research

● Produce periodic summary reports or tables for various audiences, including school personnel


● Ph.D. or Master’s degree with three years’ experience in the field of statistics, educational measurement, economics, or related field with at least three years’ experience with experience in data management and/or education research

● Professional skills in statistics and educational measurement

● Advanced proficiency in using SPSS, STATA, R, or similar statistical software

● Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software

● Technical proficiency in programming for data management, including applying quality control procedures

● Ability to prepare clear documentation

● Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks


● Experience and strengths in collaboration with a research team

● Experience in project management

● Ph.D in the field of statistics, educational measurement, economics, or related field
