Studies in International Higher Education

Higher education has become an important player in the global economy. Massification, differentiation, human resource development, knowledge development and transfer, internationalization, and privatization are key characteristics of the global higher education landscape, although they manifest themselves in different ways depending on the type of institution, country, and/or region of the world.  Traditional divisions—such as those between North and South, developed and underdeveloped economies, universities and vocational schools, etc.—are no longer adequate to describe the dynamic and complex patterns of postsecondary education worldwide. 

Studies in International Higher Education provides cogent discussion, analysis, and debate of key themes in global higher education. This book series is a joint initiative of the Center for International Higher Education (CIHE) at Boston College and the Centre for Global Higher Education (CGHE) in the UK. Series editors are Philip G. Altbach and Hans de Wit of CIHE, and Simon Marginson and Claire Callender of CGHE. Currently there are two books published in the series and a third one in process.
