The 2010 Nelson Chair Roundtable on Networking Community Based Programs was held at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education and Human Development on March 25 & 26, 2010. Participants included administrators and expert consultants from 8 community and youth programs across the country. Community leaders, educators, students, and other resource people were in attendance. Dr. Anderson J. Franklin, Honorale David S. Nelson Professional Chair, moderated the discussions.
The 2010 Roundtable program included updates from a number of programs on recent accomplishments and struggles. The group participated in a roundtable discussion on "Creating Community, School & Family Partnerships" in conjunction with a presentation on the Nelson Chair Roundtable's collaborative project with the John Winthrop Elementary School located in Dorchester, MA. Additionally, participants enjoyed a colloquium presentation from BC's Department of Counseling, Developmental & Educational Psychology on "Validity, Science & Participatory Justice Studies." Finally, Dr. Edmund Gordon led the group through three discussion forums on the following topics:
- Program Development and Evaluation
- Recruitment, Training, and Staff Retention
- Funds, Public Policy, and Out of School Time Activities
