Dear members of the BC Law community:

I am very pleased to announce that Lisa Brathwaite will be joining us as Director for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Programs starting December 14. Lisa received her B.A. in Sociology and Gender & Women’s Studies from Bowdoin College in 2008 and anticipates receiving her M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration in December of 2021. While she started her career in legal recruitment with Boston firms Choate and K&L Gates, she has been at Northeastern University School of Law since the Fall of 2014 in the Center for Co-op and Professional Advancement (CCOPA).

As the Program Manager and Specialist within CCOPA, Lisa has designed and implemented evidence-based programming for student affinity groups, fostered and maintained relationships with minority bar and professional development associations, advised affinity groups as well as students navigating personal, professional and climate-based concerns, and has been an active member of the school’s Committee Against Institutional Racism. As our Director of DEI Programs, Lisa will work in close partnership with colleagues across student-facing offices and help lead the collaborative effort of the Law School community to provide a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment committed to the success of all of our students.

I want to thank the hiring committee for their outstanding work: Frank Garcia, Indi Harris ‘22, Heather Hayes, Steve Koh, Morgan Lam ‘21, Emily Libby (Chair), Shawn McShay, Chinyere Okogeri ‘21, Jen Perrigo and Joe Vitale. We are also very appreciative of the interviewers from our D&I Task Force, Faculty DEI Working Group, and the Office of Institutional Diversity whose insights helped us identify Lisa as the front-runner in this search process. Lastly, we are indebted to those who stepped up and helped us through this time of transition. In particular, I would like to thank Jen Perrigo who helped support LAHANAS as the administrative point person during the 2019-20 academic year.

Our DEI work continues on many fronts. I am proud of the leadership and commitment of our faculty, staff and students, and look forward to hearing updates from the task force, faculty working group, and our appointments committee next month on their efforts. We will update you on Lisa’s BC contact information when she starts with us so that you can help us welcome her to our law school community.
