Dear members of the BC Law community:

I wanted to share a letter that the Massachusetts law school deans sent last week to the Supreme Judicial Court, advocating for temporary limited practice authority for recent law school graduates. We have all been listening closely to the concerns of our third-year students and we understand the pressure they feel over bar exam delays and an uncertain work environment. The deans have been working very closely together for some time now to come up with a solution we all felt was reasonable and that offered our students the support and flexibility needed during this unprecedented time of upheaval. While we also understand the concerns of the SJC and Board of Bar Examiners over the maintenance of a high level of professional competence and the protection of the public, we believe the current crisis demands the kind of creative approaches to pathways to practice that we are now seeing in many other states. We appreciate the fact that they are taking our recommendations seriously as they make a decision on the best path forward.

Sincerely,
Vincent Rougeau
