Dear members of the BC Law community:

I write to share this afternoon's response by Justice Gants and the BBE to the Massachusetts law school deans and the related SJC information and orders.

While we were not successful at this time with a more robust temporary order or the establishment of the diploma privilege, there was a commitment by Justice Gants to continue this discussion after the crisis. In addition, the BBE committed to work with the Massachusetts law school deans on the content of the backup remote exam so that it is similar to those subjects tested on the UBE should they be unable to conduct the UBE safely on 9/30-10/1.

Please note that pursuant to the SJC Temporary Emergency Order, those graduates planning to practice in Massachusetts who need to appear in court before being sworn in (e.g. working for a DA office, CPCS, state legal office, legal services provider, etc.), can still apply for 3:03 certification before graduation. Given the process involved, if you have not already done so, please reach out to the Academic and Student Services Office at lawacastu@bc.edu right away. The process takes time and the certification needs to be granted by our graduation date of May 18, 2020.

Sincerely,
Vincent Rougeau
Dean, Boston College Law School
