Alissa Haddaji

Profile

Dr. Haddaji founded and leads the UNOOSA Space4Women Mentee Webinars and is an organizing committee member of the International Academy of Astronautics’s Planetary Defense Conference. She is also a member of the International Astronautical Federation's Near-Earth Object Committee and a board member of the Space Ethics non-profit JustSpace Alliance.

Prior to her Planetary Defense work, Dr. Haddaji was a planetary protection and defense legal and policy consultant for the Institute for Defense Analysis, a senior researcher in space economics at Harvard Business School, a research fellow in science and technology studies at Harvard Kennedy School, and a visiting scholar at George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute in Washington DC. Certified in planetary protection by NASA and ESA, she served for four years as COSPAR’s planetary protection project officer, where she led the coordination of, and co-authored the International Planetary Protection Handbook and created international Planetary Protection trainings in America, Europe and Asia.

Dr. Haddaji is a United Nations’ Office of Outer Space Affairs Space4Women network mentor, a member of the International Institute of Space Law, and a member of the Women In Aerospace Association. She is the lead coordinator of the United Nations-mandated Space Mission Planning Advisory Group Legal Working Group on Planetary Defense, where she also represents the International Committee on Space Research.
