Introduce Your Organization to BC

Hosting a recruiting event can be an important part of your organization’s recruiting strategy. Our team is available to help you arrange an information session or recruiting event to inform students about your industry, organization, career paths, and organization’s culture.

2024 -2025 Recruiting Timelines

The Career Center plans to host a combination of on-campus, hybrid, and virtual events for the 2024-2025 academic year. We are currently accepting event requests via Handshake and the event format will be up to the discretion of the employer.

Host a Recruiting Event

We are excited to help you organize your event. We partner with employers to facilitate events that can be used to meet students, discuss current career opportunities, and provide students with valuable resources.

All events must be requested through your Handshake account. If you are new to Handshake, you will need to create an account. You'll have the option to select up to two event categories with your request to help better market your event to students:

  • Hiring and recruiting
  • About your company
  • Guidance
  • Networking
  • Conferences and more

Once you submit your request, it will be reviewed within 2-3 business days by a member of our team.

Best Practices

When submitting your request in Handshake, follow the tips below to attract your talent audience:

  • Be creative when completing the Event Name and Description fields so they will be attention-grabbing and informative
  • Highlight the name, school, and class year of the alum(s) participating in the event description, if applicable
  • Provide a hyperlink to programs, internships, and full-time opportunities (whether in Handshake or on an external site) in the event description for easy reference and to increase applications
  • Post 7-10 days prior to the event date to allow for greater awareness and attendance

If your event is DEI in nature:

  • Include keywords such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), first-generation, women, etc. in the event name and description, so it can be easily found by the student audience you want to attract
  • Highlight diversity and various initiatives that your organization offers on your Handshake Employer Page

We suggest that you plan your on-campus event around other campus recruiting activities, such as your resume submission end date for on-campus interviews and career fairs. Keep in mind holidays, breaks, and events on the general Boston College event calendar. Please also reference our on-campus recruiting program and academic calendar dates for more information. If you are working directly with a student organization to schedule an event, please consult with the Career Center prior to finalizing the date and time to avoid scheduling conflicts with other pre-arranged employer events facilitated through our office.

Once you have your information session date confirmed in Handshake, it’s time to think about how to make this session engaging for our students. Based on student feedback and our own experience, here are some suggestions:

  • Have recent BC graduates or former interns discuss a day in the life at your organization.
  • Don’t make your information session simply a recap of what’s already available on your website.
  • Consider whether or not you can accomplish what you want from an information session in a unique and alternative way. Maybe feature an interactive game and/or competition, such as a quiz about what you’ve just covered, or have students go through a case study with you or engage them through product demos
  • Provide some educational content to assist students in their job search--resume advice, how to stand out in the interview process, etc.

Event Logistics

If your presentation is in a Function Room (i.e. Heights, Newton or Boston, Walsh, or Murray) room set up and Boston College catering ARE required. If your presentation is in a Classroom Building (i.e. Devlin, Fulton, Gasson, Higgins, McGuinn or Stokes) room set up is predetermined by the class room layout, and catering is optional.

You will receive an email with your event details from the Department of Event Management once they confirm the event space. If you will be ordering BC catering, follow the instructions on their confirmation in order to complete your catering and room set up requests, if applicable. You will receive a follow-up email confirmation from the Department of Event Management closer to the event date with estimated fees associated with your event.

The Department of Event Management requires all catering and event services requests to be received at least, but no later than, 12 business days prior to an event or a 25% late fee will be in effect. It is, however, recommended that you submit your request at the time you receive your confirmation email from the Department of Event Management. Any request that does not adhere to this policy cannot be guaranteed catering preferences and may not be honored.

For projection requests, call: 617-552-4219

For microphones or other audio needs, email: employer.recruiting@bc.edu.

For all requests please provide the following: Organization Name; Contact Information, including email address, cell phone number, office number; Event Title; Event Date; Event Start and End Times; Event Location; AV Needs; BC Contact Person; Any additional information such as when you would like your AV set up (20-30 minutes prior to the start of your event is recommended) and if the event contact (with cell # included) will be different than the requester.

It is strongly suggested that you reserve your audiovisual equipment at least 3 weeks prior to your event. Due to the high demand for equipment for class use, MTS cannot guarantee equipment availability. MTS is not able to accommodate last-minute requests from external clients. Once your request has been submitted, you may call 617-552-4219 (projection) or 617-552-4769 (audio) to follow up.

NOTE: Boston College does not provide laptops.

If you have materials to be distributed at your presentation, please ship materials to the Boston College Career Center, 38 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467 prior to your event. Label the boxes in the following manner: Hold for Your Organization’s Name presentation on: Day, Date, Time, Event Location. Your boxes will be delivered to your presentation location prior to the start of the event.

If you require return shipping, please bring a pre-printed airbill with you. All materials left behind will be discarded.

We strongly suggest employers advertise directly to the students to promote your event. If you will be conducting campus interviews, please be sure to include application deadlines and the date of your interviews in the publicity messaging.

  • The Heights: Bi-weekly online student newspaper. To place an advertisement, email the newspaper at ads@bcheights.com.
  • Connect With Boston College Students: This website lists student leaders from pre-professional and diverse student organizations. Contact the student leaders from relevant clubs to assist you in publicizing your event.
