Professor Gaillardetz is the Joseph Professor of Catholic Systematic Theology and a past President of the Catholic Theological Society of America, the largest professional association of Catholic theologians in the world. He focuses on issues related to church structures and the exercise of power and authority in the church, Vatican II, the papacy and bishops, the role of the laity, church ministry and marriage/family. His most recent publication is An Unfinished Council: Vatican II, Pope Francis and the Renewal of Catholicism (Liturgical Press, 2015).
