Reconnect III

An Important Message about RECONNECT III

Dear alumni,

First and foremost, I hope this message finds you and your family safe and well. I am writing to update you on the status of RECONNECT III. Dating back to the first RECONNECT that took place in 2009, this signature program has been the hallmark of our engagement offerings and we were very much looking forward to gathering back on campus in just a couple of months. However, due to the ongoing concerns surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic, and with the health and safety of our Boston College alumni community as our top priority, we have made the difficult decision to cancel RECONNECT III, originally scheduled for July 24–26.  Thanks to our many dedicated volunteers, we were able to come to this conclusion by working in close coordination with the AHANA Alumni Advisory Council (AAAC) leadership team.

While the future still remains uncertain, we ask for your patience and appreciate your understanding as our conversations are ongoing and plans continue to take shape. For those that have already registered for RECONNECT III, please note that registration fees will be refunded within the next 10–14 business days. Please consider converting your registration refund to a donation to the AHANA Eagles for Eagles fund, which directly supports AHANA students during this difficult time. Please email to let us know your preference by Wednesday, May 13.

Although we are deeply saddened that RECONNECT III will not take place as originally planned, we are committed to celebrating the AHANA community virtually and in-person throughout the course of the next academic year, provided travel and gatherings are permitted. On behalf of my colleagues in the Cadigan Alumni Center, please know we are working diligently to evaluate all of our options, in partnership with the AAAC, and will be in touch with further details as soon as we have more information to share. Be sure to like the AAAC Facebook page for the most up to date announcements and Council activity.

I would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the members of the AHANA Alumni Advisory Council and our RECONNECT III Committee volunteers, who have spent so much of their time and energy to help plan this year's event and engage our AHANA alumni. Thank you for serving as our lead ambassadors on behalf of BC and the entire AHANA alumni community.

In closing, please know how grateful we are for all the ways in which you support Boston College, and we look forward to being in touch soon with more updates regarding future engagement opportunities. I wish you all the very best and continued good health.

Warmest regards,

Leah M. DeCosta Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations

Held in 2016, RECONNECT II united alumni across decades and celebrated the University's African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American community. More than 600 alumni, friends, and family members returned to the Heights for a variety of engaging events, including presentations from the Admissions Office and the AHANA Alumni Advisory Council; a welcome from University President William P. Leahy, S.J.; networking; campus tours; and a service showcasing Voices of Imani current students and alumni.

The highlight of the weekend was the black-tie gala held on Saturday evening, featuring a moving tribute to Keith A. Francis '76. Francis was a prominent member of the AHANA community who served as a mentor to countless BC students and alumni and was instrumental in bringing prospective AHANA students to campus. A University Trustee, Francis passed away in 2011, though his legacy continues to shape BC today. In addition to the tribute, the inaugural Keith A. Francis Inspiration Award was presented to Dan Bunch '79, MSW'81, director of Learning to Learn at BC.
