Weymouth Compressor Station
Enbridge Energy Partners, Inc. has proposed the construction of a natural gas compressor station in a densly populated, low-income coastal community in North Weymouth, MA.
This is a most dangreous proposal. Gas pipeline and comporessor station explosions occur every year in the United States and an explosion in North Weymouth would likely take the lives of school children, elderly persons in nursing homes and commuters on the Fore River Bridge. Compressor stations also release texoic and caancersous into the air such as benzene, formaldehyde and 1,3-butadiene and highest exposure to tonxons would occur in the nearby community.
Citing this as an example of blatant environmental injstice, Boston College Global Public Health faculty have joined efforts of area residents, leading scientists and doctors, and environmental activists to oppose this project.
