Alex Pastrana

Biography

Alex Pastrana is a senior in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences studying International Studies and minoring in Global Public Health. She is interested in health policy, health disparities, obesity prevention, and gun violence.  Her interest in the study of public health began when she took Introduction to Epidemiology with Professor Franckle her sophomore year. Since then, Alex has been involved in a variety of public health activities both on- and off-campus. For the past two years, Alex has been an intern for the Boston Public Health Commission, where she works on their database, HelpSteps. Additionally, she conducted research with Professor Franckle during her junior year on college food insecurity and obesity prevention efforts in the United States. Over the summer, Alex was a student intern through the Global Public Health Program, where she worked with Professor Hawkins on tobacco control research. At BC, Alex is a leader for 4Boston, a member of the Public Health Club, and on the E-board for the International Studies Student Association. She hopes to combine her interests in policy and public health by pursuing an MPH or dual degree in public health and law.
