Sophie Berard is a senior from Hadley, Massachusetts majoring in Biology and minoring in Global Public Health and the Common Good. The GPHCG program has helped Sophie navigate her passions for clinical medicine, maternal-child health, nutrition, social justice, and service through a pragmatic, interdisciplinary approach. During the Fall 2021 semester, Sophie studied Global Health and Development Policy in Geneva, Switzerland, where she conducted independent research on infant and young child feeding practices in humanitarian settings. She is excited to continue this project with the support of the GPHCG program during her senior year at BC. On campus, Sophie is involved with 4Boston, Partners in Health Engage, the McGillycuddy-Logue Fellows Program, and is looking forward to her new role as a Wellness Coach in the Center for Student Wellness. Empowered by the skills and knowledge she has gained both inside and outside the classroom, Sophie ultimately hopes to enroll in an MD/MPH dual degree program upon graduation from BC. Her dream career is one which blends both clinical medicine and maternal-child public health practice in rural and under-resourced communities across the globe.
