BC IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

  • In the previous format, the Eagles won Districts four times to move onto the College World Series, the last time in 1967.
  • Super Regionals were introduced in 1999.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Johnny Adams led the Eagles for a 4-for-4 day, tying a career high for hits, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Three of his four hits were doubles.  He was 7-for-12 with three runs, four doubles and three RBIs in the Oxford Regional.
  • Senior Joe Cronin recorded the Eagles' first hit of the game in the second with a double down the left-field line, his 50th in his career, good for third in BC record books. He was 2-for-5 with an RBI and runs scored in the BC victory.
  • Sophomore Jake Palomaki drove in a run in the fourth and walked in the eighth. He has reached base in 47 of the Eagles' 54 games, including the last 14. The walk was the 42nd of the season, good for second on BC's single-season list. He holds the record with 46, set last year. His 88 career walks is tied for ninth in BC record books.
  • Freshman right-handed starter Jacob Stevens picked up his fourth win of the year, going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.
  • Freshman John Witkowski saw action for the second time in as many days and retired the first seven batters he faced before allowing a double. He threw 2.1 innings of relief, allowed two hit, one unearned run and struck out one.
  • Redshirt sophomore Bobby Skogsbergh and senior Jesse Adams combined to pitch the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run. Skogsbergh gave up one hit and struck out one while Adams struck out both batters he faced. His 82nd career appearance is tied for third in BC record books.

BC HONORED
KEY PLAYS
  • The Eagles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second and maintained control throughout the game, scoring in the third, fourth and fifth.
  • With the bases loaded in the eighth, Skogsbergh induced a double play to get the Eagles out the jam.
  • Skogsbergh and Adams struck out the side in the ninth to seal the BC victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles struck first, scoring three in the second to take an early lead. Casey reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and Cronin smoked one down the left-field line to put runners on second and third. With one out, Adams laced one into left center to score both BC runners. Sophomore Mitch Bigras plated Adams with a two-out single to right.
  • The Green Wave got one back in the bottom of the inning. Tulane loaded the bases with one out on a walk, hit by pitch and single. Richard Carthon drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Stevens ended the inning with a fly ball to left.
  • BC went back up by three in the third on an RBI single by Cronin. Junior Nick Sciortino bunted for a base hit and landed on second after an errant throw by the third baseman. Casey moved up him to third on a long fly to center and Cronin drove him in with a base knock to right.
  • The Eagles added another run in the fourth to go up, 5-1. Adams led off with his second double to left center and the Waves went to the bullpen for RHP Eric Steel. Senior Logan Hoggarth advanced Adams to third on a close play at first and Bigras drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Palomaki hit a slow chopper to second to bring in Adams. Junior Michael Strem singled past the diving shortstop, but Bigras was thrown out at the plate for the second out. With runners on second and third, new pitcher RHP Trevor Simmons struck out Sciortino to end the BC threat.
  • Hunter Williams led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot to left center to make it 5-2.
  • The Eagles got the run back in the fifth as Casey led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two down, Adams knocked one to center to drive in his third run of the day.
  • The BC defense was on display in the bottom of the inning. Stephen Alemais led off with a base hit and when Jake Rogers knocked one through the left side, he attempted to reach third but left fielder Hoggarth gunned it to third baseman Cronin for the tag out. After a hit batter to put two on, the Eagles turned a 643 double play to end the inning.
  • The Wave got one more in the eight to cut the lead to three but the Eagles got out a base-loaded jam to hold the lead. Witkowski gave up a one-out double and to Grant Witherspoon and Jeremy Montalbano hit one to short. Adams ranged for the play, but his throw went wide, allowing Witherspoon to score. Skogsbergh entered the game and loaded the bases on a single and walk before forcing a 643 double play to end the inning.
