GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College fencing head coach
Brendan Doris-Pierce has been voted the ACC Men's Coach of the Year, as announced Friday by the conference.
Â
This marks the first time Doris-Pierce, who is in his third season as head coach of the Eagles, has earned the ACC Men's Coach of the Year.
Â
Doris-Pierce guided the BC men's side to seven top-8 finishes at the ACC Championships, with
Will Smith earning a silver medal in epee as well as Rahcel Liu a silver and
Gillian Lawlor a bronze in sabre. Ten total Eagles – seven on the men's side and three on the women's side – earned a top-six spot for BC at the ACC Championships. As a team, the men defeated Duke, 14-13, to go 1-1 in the round robin and finish in a three-way tie for first place before falling in the tie-break round against the Blue Devils, 2-1, and earning a third-place finish.
After the ACC tournament, BC went on to qualify a program record 11 qualifiers – six men and five women – for the NCAA finals. The BC men finished with four All-Americans at the NCAA Championships while the Eagles picked up an eighth-place team finish, the best in program history.Â
Â
Doris-Pierce was named the Northeast Fencing Conference Men's Team Coaching Staff of the Year in 2019.Â
