Helleson and McLaughlin Selected to U.S. Men's Olympic Team

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior forward Marc McLaughlin and junior defenseman Drew Helleson have been selected to the 2022 United States Men's Winter Olympic Team, becoming the 26th and 27th U.S. Olympians in program history.

The U.S. roster includes 15 current NCAA players, eight European professionals and two players from the AHL. The squad will represent the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games from Feb. 3-20 in Beijing, China. BC has been represented in men's ice hockey at every Winter Olympics since 1984. 

McLaughlin has captained the Eagles for the last two seasons and currently ranks fifth nationally in goals per game with a career-high 14 in 19 games. The North Billerica native leads Hockey East with six power play goals and sits third in points per game. McLaughlin won last year's Hockey East Best Defensive Forward Award.

Helleson ranks fourth among all Hockey East defensemen in points per game with 14 points in 18 games. Last year, he was recognized as a Second Team All-American
and was named the Best Defensive Defenseman in the league. Helleson won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships. 

Team USA opens the tournament against the host China on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 8:10 a.m. (ET). The Americans face Canada on Friday, Feb. 11 at 11 p.m. (ET) and close the preliminary round against Germany on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 8:10 a.m. (ET).

NBC is the television home of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in the U.S. and a full broadcast schedule will be released close to the start of the Games.
