Digital Projects at the Institute
The Institute ensures that the best digital resources and scholarship in the field of Jesuit Studies are available in Open Access, for everyone, everywhere, and will continue that commitment with additional forthcoming projects. The Institute welcomes collaborative partners in the digital humanities.
The Portal to Jesuit Studies provides free, online access to a fully searchable collection of primary sources and scholarly publications in the field of Jesuit Studies. The Portal curates resources from different websites, making their contents all available in a single search engine. The Portal's editors collaborate with scholars, editors, archivists, and rightsholders to give informed direction to some of the richest primary sources and burgeoning scholarship in the field of Jesuit Studies.
Accessible in Open Access at JesuitOnlineBibliography.com, the Jesuit Online Bibliography is database of bibliographical records for scholarship (books, chapters, articles, reviews, dissertations, and others materials) in the field of Jesuit Studies. Editorial oversight of bibliography is a collaborative effort between Jesuit research centers and archives as well as scholars and publishers. Begun in 2016, the Jesuit Historiography Online will eventually consist of more than 70 essays on a variety of topics and in a variety of disciplines associated with the history of the Society of Jesus. Essays will be updated and new essays added on a regular basis. The Institute supports the project as an Open Access resource.
The Jesuit Online Library allows users to search 37 Jesuit titles—more than 130,000 pages, across 820 volumes—simultaneously or to browse single volumes individually. The collection includes books and journals in English, French, German, Spanish, Latin, and Portuguese. Searches can be refined by title, date, publication, or author. The Institute collaborates with rightsholders to make these titles available online at no cost to the users or publishers. The full contents of the Jesuit Online Library are included with the search capacity of the Portal to Jesuit Studies.
The Journal of Jesuit Studies is a peer-reviewed quarterly journal, in its fourth year, dedicated to the study of Jesuit history, publishing scholarly articles, interviews, and book reviews. Since the Institute provided support to make the journal's contents available in Open Access, monthly downloads have increased from 500 to more than 4,000.
