Private Lessons
Instruction for Credit MUSP 1925 (Voice) and MUSP 1985 (Instruments)
Individual instruction on a musical instrument, or in voice is open to any Boston College student upon consultation with the Music department. Students are assigned to an approved teacher for an hour a week lesson beginning the second or third week of classes. The semester fee is $740 for eleven 60-minute lessons. The student taking lessons for credit will also be required to attend 3 or 4 master classes and/or workshops in order to meet the Federal guidelines of 15 hours of class time per single credit. One credit is given for a semester's lessons, graded on a pass-fail basis.
To receive credit for individual lessons in voice or instruments students must register for the MUSP1925 (voice) or MUSP1985 (instruments) one-hour lessons for credit through the Music Department website before drop/add period ends. See information on individual lessons for fees and regulations. Vocal/Instrumental Instruction for credit includes 11 lessons and three additional hours of master classes or performance. At the end of each semester of instruction, students must perform a jury to receive credit. Grades are P/F. Juries consist of performing prepared scales and a prepared piece or pieces. Students may apply three credits of lessons toward the 120 credits needed to graduate. Students continuing lessons after three semesters of MUSP1925 / MUSP1985 should register for MUSP1920 / MUSP1980 one-hour lessons non-credit.
