Digital History Initiative

The purpose of the Digital History Initiative (DHI) is to encourage a conversation about the promise and limitations of new tools and technologies being used in the study of History today and to create a narrative of our various projects for ongoing reference by the department.

What is Digital History? There is no one answer but we will explore several. A collaborative effort by faculty, students, and librarians, the DHI can be seen at the broadest level as an exercise in academic literacy – a way of becoming familiar with important new techniques in the Humanities even if we do not necessarily use them ourselves. This site offers support on getting started, showcases some of the projects we are engaged in, provides frank assessments of the challenges and rewards of the work involved, and features ongoing reports on workshops and conferences within and beyond the department.
